Chiral effective theory with a light scalar and lattice QCD

Friday March 23, 14:30hs -  Seminar room

Speaker: Pedro Talavera (Universitat de Barcelona)

We extend the usual chiral perturbation theory framework to allow the inclusion of a light dynamical isosinglet scalar.

SUSY searches at LHC, presented at Moriond EW 2012

Wednesday March 21, 14:00hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Ernesto Arganda

(Coffee will be served 10min before in the TH common room)

Interpreting Higgs results

Friday, March 16, 14:30hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Adam Falkowski (Orsay)

I will present an analysis of the 2011 LHC Higgs data in the context of an effective low-energy theory of the Higgs boson. The focus will be on searches in the Higgs to 4 leptons and Higgs to diphoton channels.

The static energy renormalon from high order perturbative expansions

Friday March 9, 14:30hs -  Seminar room

Speaker: Clemens Bauer (University of Regensburg, Germany)

Using Numerical Stochastic Perturbation Theory (NSPT), we calculate the static self-energy of SU(3) gauge theory up to order $\alpha^{20}$ .

The Next-Generation Infrared Spectrograph for the GTC

Wednesday March 7, 12:00hs - Seminar Room

Speaker : Stephen S. Eikenberry (University of Florida)

MIRADAS is a near‐infrared multi‐object R=20,000 echelle spectrograph for the 10.4‐meter Gran Telescopio Canarias.

MARCH 2012 - Postdoctoral Research Position at the IFAE Neutrino Group

The High Energy Physics Institute in Barcelona (IFAE) offers one postdoctoral position in the field of experimental neutrino physics.

Neutron stars as laboratory for dense matter

Friday, March 2, 14:30hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Laura Tolos (ICE/UAB)

Neutron stars are an excellent laboratory for testing matter under extreme conditions. In particular, a lot of emphasis has been invested in understanding the interior of neutron stars and the equation of state of the different possible phases since its direct consequences for the mass-radius relationship of neutron stars as well as cooling processes.

COLLOQUIUM - ASPERA updates its roadmap

Monday February 27th 2012, 12 pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: Manel Martinez (IFAE)

The Galileion

Monday February 20. 14:30hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Enrico Trincherini (SNS, Pisa)

I will first review the recently proposed theory of a scalar field invariant under an internal "galilean" symmetry, under which the field's gradient shifts by a constant.
