SEMINAR: Discovery through precision: perturbative QCD at the dawn of Run II

October 30 2015, 12:00pm -  Seminar room

SEMINAR: Geometrical destabilization of heavy scalar fields during inflation

October 9 2015, 12:00h - Seminar room

Speaker: Sébastien Renaux-Petel (IAP Paris)

Abstract: We show the existence of a general mechanism by which heavy scalar fields can be destabilized during inflation. It relies on the fact that the effective mass of fluctuations orthogonal to the inflationary direction contains a contribution proportional to the curvature tensor of the field space metric, and that it can render the entropic fluctuations tachyonic.

SEMINAR: A goldstino at the end of the cascade

September 22 2015, 12:00h - Seminar room

Speaker: Daniele Musso (ICTP Trieste)

Abstract :Working within a five-dimensional consistent truncation of type IIB supergravity dimensionally reduced on T^{1,1}, we consider supersymmetry breaking solutions with the asymptotics of the supersymmetric KS background. There exists a two-parameter family of such solutions. Within this family, we show that those (and only those) solutions related to antiD-branes at the tip of the conifold correspond to dual field theory vacua where a goldstino mode is present and the supercurrent Ward identities hold. Our findings do not depend on the IR singularity of the dual backgrounds, nor on its resolution. As such, they provide independent evidence for the existence of superysymmetry breaking vacua in the conifold cascading gauge theory.

SEMINAR: Topological insulators from theory to experiments and viceversa

July 10 2015, 12:00pm -  Seminar room

SEMINAR: Dark matter halos as particle colliders

June 30 2015, 12:00pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: Sean Tulin (York University)

Abstract : Astrophysical observations of the structure of galaxies and clusters are no longer simply proving the existence of DM, but have sharpened into a discovery tool probing the particle physics of DM.

SEMINAR: Higgs and QCD axion implications for baryogenesis

June 29 2015, 12:00pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: Géraldine Servant (IFAE)

Abstract : I will discuss  how strong CP violation from  the QCD axion can be responsible for baryogenesis.

SEMINAR: Searching for dark mediators

June 19 2015, 12:00pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: Felix Kalhofer (DESY Hamburg)

Abstract : I will discuss dark matter models, which in addition to a new stable particle introduce a new mediator with a mass comparable to or even below the dark matter mass.
