COLLOQUIUM: The muon anomalous magnetic moment, a view from the lattice

July 8th 2013, 12pm _ Seminar room

Speaker: Maarten Golterman (San Francisco State University, UAB & IFAE)

Abstract: The anomalous magnetic moment of the muon has been measured with very high precision at Brookhaven, and will be measured with even better precision at Fermilab.

Seminar: Effective field theory of unstable top

Friday June 14 2013,  2.30pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Alexander Penin (University of Alberta)

We develop a new nonrelativistic effective field theory to describe the finite lifetime effects in the threshold production of top quark-antiquark pairs.

JUNE 2013 - The Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE) participates in the Barcelona Science and Technology festival

IFAE will participate in the f(c+t) party, the Barcelona Science and Technology festival, held this week end (14-15 June) in Parc de la Ciutadella. IFAE will contribute showing the ATLAS maquette, several posters explaining the experiments we are involved in, and a homemade (by T. Lux) cloud chamber. For more information follow this link.

Seminar: Viability of light-Higgs strongly-coupled scenarios

Friday May 24 2013, 2:30pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Juan José Sanz-Cillero (U. Autónoma de Madrid)

We present a one-loop calculation of the oblique S and T parameters within strongly-coupled models of EW symmetry breaking with a Higgs-like boson and analyze the phenomenological implications.

THESIS DEFENSE: Measurement of the ttbar production cross-section in the tau+jets final state at sqrt(s) = 7 TeV with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

Monday May 27 2013, 12 pm - Seminar room

Thesis Defender: Ma Chiara Conidi

MAM Seminar: Positivity constraints on chiral low-energy constants for pion-nucleon scattering

Thursday May 22 2013, 2:00pm - Coffee room

Speaker:Juan Jose Sanz-Cillero

Positivity constraints on the chiral low energy constants of the pion-nucleon Lagrangian
up to the O(p4) level are derived with the help of axiomatic principles, such as analyticity, crossing
symmetry and unitarity, in the upper part of Mandelstam triangle.

Seminar: Holography with momentum dissipation

Friday May 10 2013, 2:30pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: David Vegh (CERN)

We propose massive gravity as a holographic framework for describing a class of strongly interacting quantum field theories with momentum dissipation.

Seminar: Implementation of RChL results at low energy MC generators for tau decays and e+e- annihilation

Wednesday May 8th 2013, 2:00pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Olga Shekhovtsova (IFJ PAN, Cracow)

Using the Resonance Chiral Lagrangian (RChL) we describe the hadronization in various processes, like electron-positron annihilation into pions with additional photon radiation, electron-positron scattering with production of pseudoscalars (pion or eta meson) and tau decays into hadrons.
