## Bubble Growth in Cosmological Phase Transitions

Monday January 17th, 14:30hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Jose-Miguel No  (IPhT, Saclay)

Abstract:

FULL TITLE: "Bubble Growth in Cosmological Phase Transitions: Hydrodynamic Obstructions vs Runaway Bubbles". A cosmological first order phase transition can lead to many interesting phenomena, such as electroweak baryogenesis or the production of a stochastic background of gravitational waves.

## Non-linear SUSY and MSS

Friday January 14th, 14:30hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Emilian Dudas (Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau)

Abstract:

Using the formalism of constrained superfields, we derive the general effective action of a light goldstino coupled to MSSM. The goldstino-induced couplings become important when the scale of supersymmetry breaking is low. We compute the Higgs potential and show that the (tree level) mass of the Higgs can be increased to the LEP bound for $\sqrt f\sim 2$ TeV to 7~TeV.

## Particle Hunting at LHC

Wednesday January 12th, 14:00hs - Coffee room

Speaker:Luca Fiorini (IFAE)

## THESIS DEFENSE - Charged-particle multiplicities in pp interactions at √s = 900 GeV and√s = 7 TeV measured with the ATLAS detector at the LHC

Thursday, December 16th 2010, 12 pm - Seminar room

Thesis Defender: Matteo Volpi

## New aspects of symmetry breaking in Grand Unified Theories

Thursday December 16th, 14:30 hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Luca Di Luzio  (SISSA, Trieste)

Abstract:

Only the minimal GUTs are usually subject to a thorough scrutiny by complementary observables such as the proton lifetime, the absolute neutrino mass scale and the matching with the effective SM flavor structure.

## New physics from W polarisation in top quark decays

Tuesday December 14th, 14.30hs - Seminar room

Speaker: José Bernabeu (IFIC, Valencia)

Abstract:

From the most general Wtb vertex arising from dimension-six gauge invariant effective operators, I discuss the density matrix for the decay of a polarised top quark into a polarised W boson and a b quark.

## Solar neutrino physics and the Borexino experiment

Monday December 13th, 12:00 - Seminar room

Speaker: Marco Pallavicini (Universita' di Genova / INFN)

Abstract:

Solar neutrino physics is an interesting field of research for both fundamental physics and solar physics. Low energy solar neutrinos, which provide 99% of the flux, are a unique probe to the Sun's interior and may help solving fundamental solar physics problem.

## Leptogenesis without violation of B-L

Friday December 10th, 14:30 hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Juan Racker  (Universitat de Barcelona)

Abstract:

Leptogenesis is a very attractive mechanism to explain the baryon asymmetry of the universe because it connects this mystery with the smallness of neutrino masses. After an introduction to leptogenesis we will motivate and describe a simple model for low energy leptogenesis that conserves B-L.

## Searching for New Physics with Top Quark Decays

Friday December 3rd, 14:15hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Jernej F. Kamenik (Jozef Stefan Institute, Ljubljan)

Abstract:

We analyze possible new physics signals in the decays of the top quark within an effective field theory approach. In particular, we compute the branching ratios for the rare top quark decays t to c gamma and t to c Z mediated by effective flavor changing neutral couplings at the next-to-leading order in QCD including the effects due to operator mixing.

## The structure of 4D Conformal Field Theories

Friday November 26th, 14:30hs -  Seminar room

Speaker: Slava Rychkov  (ENS & UPMC, Paris)

Abstract:

I will review the status of the program, initiated a few years ago by the speaker and R. Rattazzi, of putting model-independent bounds on the structure of 4D CFTs by using OPE associativity and unitarity. I will also discuss applications to BSM phenomenology.
