COLLOQUIUM - Results from Dark Matter direct detection experiments and their interpretation

Monday January 30th 2012, 12 pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Thomas Schwetz-Mangold (Max-Planck-Institute for Nuclear Physics)

COLLOQUIUM - Status of neutrino oscillations and sterile neutrinos

Monday May 2nd 2011, 12 pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: Michele Maltoni (UAM/CSIC)

Abstract: The vast majority of solar, atmospheric, reactor and accelerator neutrino data are presently well explained by the hypotesis that neutrinos are massive and that flavor conversion occurs among the three known neutrino flavors.

COLLOQUIUM - Nanoscience and nanotechnology at a glance

Monday, March  28th 2011, 11 am - Seminar room

Speaker: Jordi Pascual  ICN, UAB

Abstract: In this talk I will review some of the fundamental ideas that lie behind nanotechnology, the science and technology that investigate the new properties of matter that arise from the peculiar behavior at the nanoscale.

Asymptotic safety

Friday March 25th, 14:30 hs. - Seminar room

Speaker: Roberto Percacci (SISSA & INFN, Trieste)

Abstract:

I will review the notion of nonperturbative renormalizability and possible applications to the physical world.

The ALBA synchrotron light source

Monday, January 17th, 12:00hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Ramon Pascual (CELLS-ALBA synchrotron, IFAE and UAB).

Abstract:

An introduction to third generation synchrotron light sources will be presented, with a special mention to ALBA, a project which started within the IFAE and which it is scheduled to start operation this year. Some examples of the capabilities of synchrotron light will be exposed, with a description of the seven beam lines of the first phase

Solar neutrino physics and the Borexino experiment

Monday December 13th, 12:00 - Seminar room

Speaker: Marco Pallavicini (Universita' di Genova / INFN)

Abstract:

Solar neutrino physics is an interesting field of research for both fundamental physics and solar physics. Low energy solar neutrinos, which provide 99% of the flux, are a unique probe to the Sun's interior and may help solving fundamental solar physics problem.
