COLLOQUIUM - Towards Gravitational-Wave Astronomy

April 15th 2013, 12pm - Seminar room

Speaker : Alicia Sintes (U Illes Balears)

The ground-based world-wide network of gravitational-wave laser interferometers has the ambitious goal of the first direct detection of gravitational waves.

Their detection will provide a fundamental, new tool to probe the universe, with information on supernovae, colliding black holes and rotating neutron stars. In this talk I will give an overview of the status of the gravitational wave instruments and review the most significant observational results obtained so far.
