MAM SEMINAR - The vacuum wave functional for Yang-Mills theory in 3 dimensions

Wednesday November 7th 2012, 2 pm - Coffee room

Speaker: Sebastian Krug

Abstract: I will explain the vacuum wave functional, and present and compare three different methods to obtain the VWF for Yang-Mills theory in 3 dimensions. I will conclude showing how to use it to calculate physical quantities, in particular the static potential.

SEMINAR - Gamma ray astronomy and the origin of galactic cosmic rays

Monday November 5th 2012, 12 pm- Seminar room

Speaker: S. Gabici (Laboratoire APC - CNRS/Université Paris 7)

Abstract: He will give a comprehensive introduction for non-experts, so that it can reach a wider audience.

THESIS DEFENSE - Search for gamma-ray emission from supernova remnants with the Fermi/LAT and MAGIC telescopes

Wednesday October 31st 2012, 12 pm - Seminar room

Thesis defender: Ignasi Reichardt

SEMINAR - Hitting a Natural Higgs in SUSY

Wednesday October 31st 2012, 2:30 pm - Downstairs meeting room

Speaker: Chris Wymant (University of Durham)

Abstract: Supersymmetric theories solve the hierarchy problem chiefly by virtue of a partner for the top quark, the stop, which contributes to the Higgs mass correction an equal amount with the opposite sign.

SEMINAR - Holography of the Weyl semi-metals

Friday October 26th 2012,  14:30 pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Umut Gursoy (CERN)

Abstract: Weyl semi-metals can be thought of higher dimensional analogs of Graphene, where the single-fermion excitations exhibit Weyl-like dispersion instead of Dirac.

Non-Abelian discrete gauge symmetries in String Theory

Thursday, October 11th 2012, 11:45am - Seminar room

Speaker: Pablo González Cámara (Barcelona Univ.)

Abstract:

I will discuss the realization of non-Abelian discrete gauge symmetries in 4d field theory and string theory compactifications, as well as their possible relevance for flavor physics.

COLLOQUIUM - What we have learnt from the Ultra High Energy Cosmic rays in the XXI century?

Monday October 8th 2012, 12 pm - Seminar room

Speaker: E. Zas (Universidad de Santiago de Compostela & IGFAE)

Magnetic fields, chiral anomalies and lepton asymmetry

Friday October 5th, 14:30hs. - Seminar room

Speaker: Oleg Ruchayskiy (CERN)

Abstract:

It is generally believed that the ground state of the Standard Model at high temperatures is homogeneous and isotropic. This assumption underlies the description of many important processes in the early Universe.

COLLOQUIUM - Supernova Cosmology : where is the systematic floor ?

Monday  September 17th 2012, 14 pm - Seminar room

Speaker :  Reynald Pain (LPHNE,Universite Pierre et Marie Curie, Paris)

Neutrinos and dark matter

Friday June 29 14:30hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Viviana Niro (UB)

Abstract:

I review the state of the art for candidates of Dark Matter, focusing also on the possibility that keV-sterile neutrinos constitute the Dark Matter particle. In this context, I summarize several models that can explain the required mass pattern in the right-handed neutrino sector.
