COLLOQUIUM: Dark Matter direct detection

May 4 2015, 12:00pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: David G Cerdeño (IPPP Durham U)

Although there is substantial evidence for the existence of vast amounts of Dark Matter in the Universe, we still ignore its nature.

COLLOQUIUM: 50 years of Bell inequalities

April 20 2015, 12:00pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: Albert Bramon (UAB Emeritus Professor)

Abstract: Bell's theorem --a theorem showing that some quantum phenomena cannot be explained under the joint assumptions of realism and locality-- appeared 50 years ago and Bell's inequalities --the tools to confront quantum mechanics with local realism-- have been actively investigated since those days, both theoretically and experimentally.

APRIL 2015 - Dark Energy Survey: mapping the dark matter of the Universe

Scientists on the Dark Energy Survey have released the first in a series of dark matter maps of the cosmos. These maps, created with one of the world's most powerful digital cameras, are the largest contiguous maps created at this level of detail and will improve our understanding of dark matter's role in the formation of galaxies. Analysis of the clumpiness of the dark matter in the maps will also allow scientists to probe the nature of the mysterious dark energy, believed to be causing the expansion of the universe to speed up.

APRIL 2015 - J-PARC increases intensity for the T2K experiment

J-PARC has reached a great milestone, 1e21 protons on target toward Super-Kamiokande for T2K. For more information visit link.

SEMINAR: Single top + Higgs: quantum interference and the sign of y_t

April 9 2015, 2:30pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Andrea Giammanco (CERN)

Abstract : An interesting "accidental cancellation" in the Standard Model between the leading production diagrams makes the search for a Higgs boson in association with a single top quark (tHq) a powerful probe for new physics.

THESIS DEFENSE: Search for the SM Higgs boson in the (W/Z)H channel with H->bb using the ATLAS detector at the LHC

Februrary 20 2015, 11:30am - Seminar room

Thesis Defender: Garoé González

SEMINAR: Top mass from the bottom (at NLO)

March 20 2015, 2:30pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Roberto Franceschini (CERN)

Abstract : In this talk I will briefly review the present status and motivations for an accurate measurement of the top quak mass. In particular I will outline future strategies and possible outcomes for a global combination of top quark masses measurement at hadron colliders.

SEMINAR: Recent progress in massless and massive event shapes

March 19 2015, 11:30am - Seminar room

Speaker: Vicent Mateu (Vienna U)

Abstract : In this talk I will give an overview of our recent developments in the theoretical description of the event shapes, and will discuss the results obtained in recent analyses for the determination of the strong coupling constant.

MARCH 2015 - Pre-enrolment period for the 2015/16 official Master's Degree in High Energy Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology

The second pre-enrolment period for the 2015/16 Official Master's Degree in High Energy Physics, Astrophysics and Cosmology will be from March 2nd to May 8th 2015.
