COLLOQUIUM:  Cien años de gravedad / One hundred years of nigritude

February 2nd 2015, 12:00PM - Seminar room

Speaker:  Roberto Emparan (U Barcelona & ICREA)

Abstract: In November 1915 Einstein finally arrived at the definitive formulation of General Relativity. Before the end of that same year, Schwarzschild found its most important solution.

SEMINAR: Physical parameters of the electroweak crossover

January 23 2015, 2:30pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: Michela D'Onofrio (Helsinski U)

Abstract :  We use large-scale lattice simulations to compute the rate of baryon number violating processes (the sphaleron rate), the Higgs field expectation value, and the critical temperature in the Standard Model across the electroweak phase transition temperature.

SEMINAR: Dark Nuclear Physics

January 9 2015, 2:30pm

Speaker: Matthew Mccullough (CERN)

Abstract : I will discuss the possibility of nuclear physics in the dark sector with a focus on the types of scenarios in which dark nuclear physics could arise and how this might influence dark sector cosmology and phenomenology

DECEMBER 2014: Communication and Public Relations Manager

Job Reference: IFAE-2015-SO-01
Publication date: 18-December-2014
Closing date: 15-February-2015

The Institut de Física d'Altes Energies (IFAE, see www.ifae.es), a research centre awarded with the Severo Ochoa recognition for excellence, is opening a new position for a highly qualified professional to manage its communication policy.

SEMINAR: New ways to search for right-handed current in $B\to \rho \ell \bar\nu$ decay

December 19 2014, 2:30pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Sascha Turczyk (U Mainz)

Abstract : An interesting possibility to ease the tension between various determinations of $|V_{ub}|$ is to allow a small right-handed contribution to the standard model weak current.  The present bounds on such a contribution are fairly weak.

SEMINAR: Dark matter and flavor

Decemeber 18 2014, 2:30pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Fady Bishara (Cincinnati U and Fermilab)

Abstract : We show that flavor symmetries can lead to dark matter stability without the need to impose additional discrete or continuous symmetries specifically for this purpose. We explore two scenarios.

DECEMBER 2014 - 2014 Nishina Memorial Prize to T2K

Takashi Kobayashi (KEK) and Tsuyoshi Nakaya (Kyoto University) from the T2K Collaboration have been awarded the 2014 Nishina Memorial Prize for their contributions to the "Observation of electron neutrino appearance in a muon neutrino beam".

More information at http://www.nishina-mf.or.jp/NishinaMemorialPrize-E.html.

SEMINAR: Axions in SUSY

December 12 2014, 2:30pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: Lorenzo Ubaldi (Bonn U)

Abstract : The axion represents a plausible solution to the strong CP problem, while supersymmetry remains a leading candidate in addressing the hierarchy problem of the Standard Model. Marrying the axion with supersymmetry results in a very rich and interesting phenomenology.

SEMINAR: On Flavour and Naturalness of Composite Higgs Models

December 11 2014, 2:30pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: Alexei Matsedonskyi (SNS Pisa)

Abstract : In this talk I present an analysis of flavour and EWPT constraints imposed on Composite Higgs models with a flavour-symmetric strong sector.

DECEMBER 2014 - Ramon Miquel, next director of IFAE

(Versió catalana a sota)

The Governing Board of the Institut de Física d'Altes Energies (IFAE) appointed professor Ramon Miquel as the next director. This opening was advertised internationally, and the appointment was made from the short list recommended by IFAE's external Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Miquel follows in this position Dr. Matteo Cavalli- Sforza, director of IFAE since 2008.
