SEMINAR: On Flavour and Naturalness of Composite Higgs Models

December 11 2014, 2:30pm -  Seminar room

Abstract : In this talk I present an analysis of flavour and EWPT constraints imposed on Composite Higgs models with a flavour-symmetric strong sector.

DECEMBER 2014 - Ramon Miquel, next director of IFAE

(Versió catalana a sota)

The Governing Board of the Institut de Física d'Altes Energies (IFAE) appointed professor Ramon Miquel as the next director. This opening was advertised internationally, and the appointment was made from the short list recommended by IFAE's external Scientific Advisory Board. Dr. Miquel follows in this position Dr. Matteo Cavalli- Sforza, director of IFAE since 2008.

SEMINAR: Standard Model vacuum stability with a 125 GeV Higgs

December 5 2014, 2:30pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: Stefano Di Vita (MPI Munich)

Abstract : The observation at the LHC of a scalar particle compatible with the Standard Model (SM) Higgs boson could represent the ultimate success of the SM description of particle interactions.

SEMINAR: Understanding the Large Scale Structure of the Universe through Symmetries

November 28 2014, 2:30pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: Toni Riotto (Geneva U)

Abstract : Getting inspiration from what is usually done in high energy physics, we will discuss what kind of knowledge we may get on the large scale structure of the universe from the symmetries of the dark matter dynamics.

SEMINAR: Atomic dark matter

November 25 2014, 12:00pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Kalliopi Petraki (NIKHEF Amsterdam)

Abstract : Observations of the galactic and subgalactic structure of our universe can be explained better if dark matter possesses sizeable self-interactions, rather than if it is collisionless.

SEMINAR: A Higgs or the Higgs ? A detailed look at the anomalous Higgs couplings

November 21 2014, 2:30pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Shankha Banerjee (HRI Allahabad India)

Abstract : Recent results from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) has proved the existence of the long-awaited Higgs boson in the Standard Model (SM).

CERN makes public first data of LHC experiments

See press release at http://home.web.cern.ch/about/updates/2014/11/cern-makes-public-first-data-lhc-experiments.

Geneva 20 November 2014. CERN launched today its Open Data Portal where data from real collision events, produced by the LHC experiments will for the first time be made openly available to all. It is expected that these data will be of high value for the research community, and also be used for education purposes.

November 24 2014 - Seminar room

Speaker:Toni Pich (IFIC & U Valencia)

Abstract: The LHC data has brought a new perspective on our understanding of particle physics.

COLLOQUIUM: That's the story": Prof. Roy Glauber remembers the making of the atomic bomb

December 15 2014 - Seminar room

Speaker: José Ignacio Latorre (Universitat de Barcelona), Maria Teresa Soto-Sanfiel (UAB)

Abstract: Nobel laureate Prof. Roy J. Glauber is the last alive scientist from the Theory Division of the Manhattan Project at Los Alamos.
