GUT models from F-theory compactifications

Friday February 11th 14:30hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Timo Weigand   (University of Heidelberg)

F-theory represents a fascinating approach to non-perturbative string compactifications with 7-branes. More recently, I was appreciated that it is also a promising candidate for applications to phenomenology, combining some of the traditional strengths of both the heterotic string and intersecting branes.

The Complex Structure of Scattering Amplitudes

Friday January 28th 14:30 hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Pierpaolo Mastrolia (University of Salerno)

Unitarity and Analyticity of scattering amplitudes, when combined with Cauchy's Residue Theorem and its multivariate generalizations via Stokes' Theorem, turn into powerful techniques for evaluating radiative corrections.

The dilaton, a Higgs impersonator

Wednesday January 26th,  14:00 hs - Coffee room

Speaker : Alex Pomarol

Electroweak light from Dark Matter annihilation

Friday January 21st 14:30hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Alfredo Urbano (INFN & Univ. of Salento, Lecce, & IFAE, Barcelona)

The computation of the energy spectra of Standard Model particles originated from the annihilation/decay of dark matter particles is of primary importance in indirect searches of dark matter.

Bubble Growth in Cosmological Phase Transitions

Monday January 17th, 14:30hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Jose-Miguel No  (IPhT, Saclay)

FULL TITLE: "Bubble Growth in Cosmological Phase Transitions: Hydrodynamic Obstructions vs Runaway Bubbles". A cosmological first order phase transition can lead to many interesting phenomena, such as electroweak baryogenesis or the production of a stochastic background of gravitational waves.

Non-linear SUSY and MSS

Friday January 14th, 14:30hs - Seminar room

Speaker: Emilian Dudas (Ecole Polytechnique, Palaiseau)

Using the formalism of constrained superfields, we derive the general effective action of a light goldstino coupled to MSSM. The goldstino-induced couplings become important when the scale of supersymmetry breaking is low. We compute the Higgs potential and show that the (tree level) mass of the Higgs can be increased to the LEP bound for $\sqrt f\sim 2$ TeV to 7~TeV.
