Seminar: Emergent Lorentz Invariance from Strong Dynamics

Friday July 5 2013, 2:30pm -  Seminar room

Speaker:Oriol Pujolas (IFAE & Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona)

Abstract:
I will discuss the phenomenon of emergent Lorentz invariance in strongly coupled theories. Lorentz Invariance is imprinted by the renormalization group flow in most observables, such as the dispersion relations of composite particles at low energies.

Seminar: Searching for spectral features in the gamma-ray sky

Thursday June 27th 2013, 14:30 - Seminar Room

Speaker: Alejandro Ibarra (Technische Universität München)

Seminar: Effective field theory of unstable top

Friday June 14 2013,  2.30pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Alexander Penin (University of Alberta)

Abstract:
We develop a new nonrelativistic effective field theory to describe the finite lifetime effects in the threshold production of top quark-antiquark pairs.

Seminar: A possible new phase in gauge-fixed Yang-Mills theory

Frinday June 7th 2013, 2:30pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: Maarten Golterman (San Francisco State University, UAB & IFAE)

Abstract:
The standard expectation is that gauge fixing cannot alter the physics in the physical sector of a Yang-Mills theory. In this talk, I argue that this may not be true: in an SU(2) Yang-Mills theory in which the SU(2)/U(1) coset is gauge fixed, we find that a new phase, with spontaneous symmetry breaking, appears to be a possibility.

Seminar: Viability of light-Higgs strongly-coupled scenarios

Friday May 24 2013, 2:30pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Juan José Sanz-Cillero (U. Autónoma de Madrid)

Abstract:
We present a one-loop calculation of the oblique S and T parameters within strongly-coupled models of EW symmetry breaking with a Higgs-like boson and analyze the phenomenological implications.

MAM Seminar: Positivity constraints on chiral low-energy constants for pion-nucleon scattering

Thursday May 22 2013, 2:00pm - Coffee room

Speaker:Juan Jose Sanz-Cillero

Abstract:

Positivity constraints on the chiral low energy constants of the pion-nucleon Lagrangian
up to the O(p4) level are derived with the help of axiomatic principles, such as analyticity, crossing
symmetry and unitarity, in the upper part of Mandelstam triangle.

Seminar: Holography with momentum dissipation

Friday May 10 2013, 2:30pm -  Seminar room

Speaker: David Vegh (CERN)

Abstract:
We propose massive gravity as a holographic framework for describing a class of strongly interacting quantum field theories with momentum dissipation.

Seminar: Implementation of RChL results at low energy MC generators for tau decays and e+e- annihilation

Wednesday May 8th 2013, 2:00pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Olga Shekhovtsova (IFJ PAN, Cracow)

Abstract:

Using the Resonance Chiral Lagrangian (RChL) we describe the hadronization in various processes, like electron-positron annihilation into pions with additional photon radiation, electron-positron scattering with production of pseudoscalars (pion or eta meson) and tau decays into hadrons.

Seminar: S_3 invariant extensions of the SM

Friday May 3rd 2012, 2:30pm - Seminar room

Speaker: Liliana Velasco-Sevilla (Hamburg University)

Abstract:
S_3 models offer an attractive low energy approach to describe the observed pattern of mixing, of both quarks and leptons. In this talk, I will briefly revisit the two classes of S_3 models.

MAM seminar : Dark radiation from particle decay: cosmological constraints and opportunities

Thursday May 2nd 2013, 2:00pm - coffee room

Speaker:Joern Kersten

Abstract:

We study particle decay as the origin of dark radiation. After elaborating general properties and useful parametrisations we provide model-independent and easy-to-use constraints from nucleosynthesis, the cosmic microwave background and structure formation.
