Non-Abelian Semi-Local Vortices, from (S)QCD to Condensed Matter

Abstract:

I will present some of my contributions to the study of BPS string-like solutions in supersymmetric gauge theories with extended supersymmetry. In particular, I will review the concepts of non- Abelian and semi-local vortices.

BPS solitons possess a large set of zero modes, consequence of the existence of non-trivial moduli spaces, which give rise to an extremely interesting world-sheet physics. I will discuss the relevance of this objects in the context of high energy particle physics and in condensed matter physics.
