JANUARY 2014: Open position at IFAE: Senior ASIC Research Engineer

Job Reference: IFAE-2014-SO-01
Publication date: 15-January-2014
Closing date: 31-January-2014

The Institut de Física d'Altes Energies (IFAE, see www.ifae.es), a research Centre awarded with the Severo Ochoa recognition for excellence, is opening a new position for a highly qualified professional for the design and production of dedicated ASICs for particle detector projects.

The Applied Physics division at IFAE has embarked on the development of a new Positron Emission Tomography detector based on pixel CdTe detectors, and other research lines at IFAE need also the implementation on ASICs of electronics systems being developped for other particle detectors. A Senior ASIC Research Engineer is needed for the design and production of dedicated ASICs for all these projects.

Tasks/Responsibilities:
Design of custom Analog/Mixed signal ASICs for particle detector systems, including circuit design and simulation, and physical design . Creation of novel circuit design and architectures for advancing the state of the art in pixel detector systems. Publication of results and participation in the proposal preparation process. Interfacing with external sponsors as needed

Requirements:
Ph.D/Master's degree in Electrical Engineering. Minimum of 5 years experience in the design and development of analog/mixed-signal IC design. The experience should include operational and shaping amplifiers, comparators, bandgap circuits, LDOs and/or reference circuits. Demonstrated experience in pixel detector integrated circuits is a major plus. Need to work on the complete system from concept, to design to silicon layout and verification. Should have work experience with analog EDA tools like Cadence in order to complete the design.

Desirable:
Experience in RTL design, logic synthesis, ADC, DAC, clock distribution and PLL circuits. Knowledge of signal processing and/or communications systems. Ability to mentor and train junior engineers. Enthusiasm for publishing/patenting work and for assisting with sponsor engagement.
