IFAE is a worldwide-recognized center for fundamental research in physics, including Particle Physics, Astroparticle Physics and Cosmology, and provides an international, dynamic and competitive environment for training of young researchers. IFAE is one of the few Spanish research institutes awarded with the Severo Ochoa distinction for excellence on research (recently renewed for the 2017-2021 period).

The neutrino group at IFAE is among the leading groups in the neutrino oscillation experiment T2K. The group is also responsible for significant hardware elements of the T2K experiment and the planned T2K upgrade. The group has developed most of its activities in the field of neutrino-nucleus interactions at the phenomenological and experimental levels. Neutrino cross-sections are one of the areas of development to improve neutrino oscillation measurements. The group also has experience in Time Projection Chamber detectors applied to neutrino physics. The successful candidate is expected to join the group’s efforts in one or more of the following areas: – Scientific analysis and interpretation of the T2K data. – Development of new Time Projection Chambers for the upgrade of the T2K experiment.

We offer a 3-year contract, with an annual gross salary of 36,252.82€ plus a single payment of 1,504.89€ relocation support (Spanish tax and social security deductions apply). The position offered is part of PROBIST, an international post-doctoral fellowship program led by the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) of which IFAE is a member. PROBIST is co-funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation program under the Marie Skłodowska-Curie grant agreement No. 754510. The deadline for applications is Nov 1, 2017. Eligible candidates should hold a PhD degree in Physics or Astrophysics at the time of the deadline. The PhD must not have been awarded more than 5 years prior to the deadline, and the candidates should not have spent in Spain more than 12 months in the previous three years. Incorporation of the successful candidate is tentatively foreseen for March-April 2018, but can be negotiated with the group.
