Open Position Two research positions in advanced instrumentation and techniques for particle physics, astrophysics or medical applications

The Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE, www.ifae.es ) invites candidates to apply for one of two research positions in advanced instrumentation and techniques for particle physics, astrophysics or medical applications. Appointments will be at the tenure-track level. Salary will be commensurate with experience. Significant startup funds will be provided.

Review of applications will start on 12 of March 2018 and continue until the positions are filled. The anticipated starting date is Fall 2018, although earlier appointments may be considered.

IFAE has twice been awarded with the Severo Ochoa Excellence grant by Spanish Ministry of Competitiveness, Industry and Economy, the agency funding these positions. IFAE’s research lines are in particle physics, astrophysics, cosmology and instrumentation, with a strong track record of achievements in these fields.

IFAE has an experienced technical division, that operates several laboratories, clean rooms and a well-equipped mechanical workshop.(http://www.ifae.es/eng/engineeringsupport.html )

IFAE is located on the campus of the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), and is part of the Barcelona Institute of Science and Technology (BIST, www.bist.eu ) a network of prestigious institutions working on topics ranging from photonics and nanosciences to chemistry, genomics and biosciences, some of which are also located on the UAB campus. ALBA, a third-generation synchrotron radiation facility, is also located in the immediate vicinity.

Applicants are required to hold a PhD in physics or related field and to have at least three years of postdoctoral research experience. The appointees will be expected to establish and lead new competitively funded activities centered on novel instrumentation developments.
