Open Position Systems and Network Engineer, PIC

Job Description

Port d’Informació Científica (PIC, http://www.pic.es ) is looking for a System and Network Engineer to work in the Services and Infrastructure Group providing technical support to High-Performance Scientific Data Process projects. PIC specializes in distributed systems for massive data processing, generating an aggregated Wide Area Network traffic of up to 70 Petabytes per year.

Key duties

• WAN and LAN administration
• maintenance and resolution of issues related to network services
• support to system administrators and users on network services
• configuration and administration of data transfer applications based on Linux
• configuration and administration of monitoring platform for the network

Degree and area of specialization

• Computer Science or Telecommunications University degree.

Required Skills

• Linux system administration experience (minimum 2 years)
• Network administration experience (minimum 2 years)
• English spoken and written

Experience in any of the following is a plus

• Monitoring platforms as Grafana, Kibana, Prometheus
• IT configuration management solutions such as Ansible or Puppet
• IT security
• CISCO, Dell or Fortinet systems
• CCNP certification
• Network routing protocols (BGP)
• Cloud environments
• Python programming language

Contract characteristics

The recruiting center will be Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE). The workplace will be PIC headquarters at Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona. The contract is funded by the European Commission through the project “‘Archiving and Preservation for Research Environments — ARCHIVER”, grant agreement No. 824516. The contract will be for 1 year, including a 6 month trial period, renewable up to an additional year depending on mutual satisfaction and availability of funds.

Salary Range: between 25.000 and 30.000 € yearly gross, depending on experience. PIC is a scientific-technological center located in the UAB University campus near Barcelona and it is maintained through a collaboration agreement between the research centers IFAE (http://www.ifae.es ) and CIEMAT (http://www.ciemat.es ).
