About IFAE

The Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE) is a public consortium of Generalitat de Catalunya, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, and Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB, a public university) whose main goal is to carry out research and to contribute to the development of high energy physics from a theoretical, experimental and technological point of view. IFAE has the status of a “University Institute" attached to UAB and its premises are within the campus of the university.

About the IFAE Cosmology Group

The Observational Cosmology group at IFAE is involved in the leading large international collaborations in the field: DES, DESI, Euclid and Rubin, as well as in the homegrown PAU survey. This position is linked to the project “Dark Energy Cosmological Surveys, exploiting Euclid and other surveys” funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.

Required skills

Candidate are expected to have:

• Candidates must be enrolled or admitted to a doctoral program at a Spanish university, for the 2023/2024 academic year, o hold a degree that allows admission to the official doctoral programme on the date the contract is formalized
• Knowledge in the following topics will be highly valued: Extragalactic astronomy, cosmology, data analytics. Competences:
• Experience in programming, particularly in python, typesetting in Latex.
• A high level of English, written and oral.

What will be your role?

The successful candidate will be heavily involved in the analysis the Euclid satellite data, which was launched on July 1st, 2023, and has already produced the first images from space. She/He will also contribute to the studies of the Rubin Legacy Survey of Space and Time in the framework of the Dark Energy Science Collaboration (DESC). This will require learning advance data analysis techniques.

Offered contract:

Full-time Technical Research position (40 h/week). The contract will have a minimum duration of one year with the possibility of extension up to a maximum of four years. The starting date will be as soon as possible. We offer 2 contracts.
