About IFAE

The Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE) is a public consortium of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB, a public university) whose main objective is to carry out research and to contribute to the development of high energy physics from a theoretical, experimental and technological point of view. IFAE has the status of a “University Institute" attached to the UAB and its premises are within the campus of the University.

About the ATLAS Computing Unit

The ATLAS Computing Unit is responsible for the computing infrastructure and algorithms of the Spanish TIER2 GRID infrastructure for the CERN’s LHC and for the ATLAS experiment, where IFAE is a member. It runs a substantial part of the reconstruction of the ATLAS data as well as the Monte Carlo Simulations and serves as the data provision node for the Spanish scientist working at the LHC.

Job profile and tasks

  • Physical installation of computer equipment in racks.
  • Installation of operating systems.
  • Equipment maintenance.
  • Installation of power and computer cables.
  • Repair of computer connections.
  • Inventory management with suppliers.
  • Support for equipment users and contacts with local experts or external companies.
  • Incident management in ticketing systems.
  • Incident documentation.
  • English communication skills.
  • Management of computer and auxiliary equipment.

Required skills and evaluation criteria

  • At least two years in environments similar to IFAE/PIC computer systems.
  • Knowledge of Catalan, Spanish and English to communicate with users, experts and suppliers. Previous experience in installing network and wifi equipment.
  • Required qualification: FP1- Grau Mitja
  • Others: FP1 Informàtica

The evaluation criteria and their weighting for the submitted applications will be the following:

  • Previous experience in a similar environment: 50 points
  • Linux experience at the system administrator level: 20 points
  • Windows and MacOS experience at the installation and user support level: 20 points
  • Experience in installation, equipment management and network cabling: UTP, Fiber, wifi:10 points

Offered contract

  • Partial-time Contract (30 h/week)
  • Permanent Contract (Indefinit Activitats Cientifiques-Tècniques)
  • The position will correspond to a Tècnic/a de Recerca Nivell 2
  • Salary will be proportional to experience and qualifications within the corresponding category range.
