About IFAE
The Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE) is a public consortium of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB, a public university) whose main objective is to carry out research and to contribute to the development of high energy physics from a theoretical, experimental and technological point of view. IFAE has the status of a “University Institute" attached to the UAB and its premises are within the campus of the University.
IFAE is an internationally recognized center for fundamental research in Particle Physics, Astroparticle Physics, and Cosmology. IFAE offers an international, dynamic, and competitive environment for the training of young researchers. IFAE has been accredited three times with the “Severo Ochoa Centre of Excellence” distinction, most recently for the 2025-2029 period.
The Engineering department of IFAE is a multidisciplinary team with the mission to make the scientists’ projects a reality. We are in charge of the design and development of the mechanics, electronics and software for the instrumentation required for each project. We work at the cutting edge of detector technology developing pixel detectors for High Energy Physics, telescope cameras, and detectors for medical imaging and other scientific and industrial fields. Electronics Engineer is needed to work in the design, production, debugging and commissioning of PCBs for different IFAE projects.
Required skills and evaluation criteria
The successful candidate is expected to have:
- Title: Electronics Engineer.
- Experience in multilayer PCB design: prototyping, testing and debugging.
- Good knowledge in analog and digital electronics.
- Valuable knowledge of circuit simulation tools (PSPICE, others).
- Experience using ORCAD and ALLEGRO or other tools for PCB design (schematic/Layout).
- Used to work with laboratory instrumentation (oscilloscopes, power supplies, testers, etc…).
- Valuable knowledge of hardware description languages such as VHDL or Verilog.
- English: High Level.
- Good skill reporting the results of the work.
The evaluation criteria and their weighting for the submitted applications will be the following:
- Experience in PCB design, 25
- Experience in CADENCE (Capture/allegro), 10
- Analog and digital electronics connections, 30
- Experience in analog circuit simulation (PSPICE), 5
- Ability to identify and solve problems in designed PCBs, 20
- Contents in hardware description languages with VHDL or Verilog, 10
What will be your role?
The candidates should have a University degree in Electronics Engineering or related topics. The selected candidate will be integrated into the IFAE electronics engineering group and will be dedicated to the design of custom PCBs, to cover the needs of the projects. The candidate will be in charge of the debugging and commissioning of the designed PCBs, solving any problems that may arise, and will also help with the testing tasks needed in each project.
Offered contract:
- Full-time contract (40 hours/week).
- Contract: Contracte Indefinit per la llei de la Ciència linked to the duration of the project.
- Salary will be proportional to experience and qualifications within the corresponding category range.
- Work with interesting experimental science. Opportunity to gain experience learning first-hand. Personal growth, innovation, and learning every day.
- The selected candidate is expected to join the IFAE as soon as possible.
Application and Selection process:
Applications should be submitted to Carles Puigdengoles cpuig@ifae.es and rrhh@ifae.es stating the job reference (IFAE2025/32_MEDICALPHYSICS_SO_Engineer) as the subject of the message. The mail should include a motivation letter and updated CV.
Sending CVs to the above addresses implies consent to the IFAE’s legal warning on data privacy.
The application must contain a personal identification number (DNI, NIE or passport) in order to proceed to the verification of absence of conflict of interest required by Recovery and Resilience Mechanism of the Spanish Government.
