About IFAE

The Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE) is a public consortium of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Autonomous Government of Catalonia, and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB, a public university) whose main objective is to carry out research and to contribute to the development of high energy physics from a theoretical, experimental and technological point of view. IFAE has the status of a “University Institute" attached to the UAB and its premises are within the campus of the University.

About IT Department (IFAE)

The Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE) is seeking a motivated IT Technician to join our IT Department. This position offers the opportunity to work in a dynamic research environment, supporting advanced experimental projects and cutting-edge technologies, while providing comprehensive technical support across the entire institute, including users, laboratories, and research teams. The candidate will be responsible for ensuring the proper functioning of IT systems, networks, and equipment, working closely with researchers, administrative staff, and external vendors.

Job profile and tasks

  • Physical installation of IT equipment in racks.
  • Installation of operating systems.
  • Maintenance of IT equipment.
  • Installation of network and power cabling.
  • Repair of IT connections.
  • Management of technical issues with vendors.
  • User support and point of contact for local experts or external companies.
  • Incident management using ticketing systems.
  • Documentation of incidents.
  • Ability to communicate in English.
  • Management of orders for IT and auxiliary equipment

Required skills and evaluation criteria

  • Minimum of two years of experience in IT environments within research centers or similar settings.
  • Proficiency in Catalan, Spanish, and English for effective communication with users, experts, and vendors.
  • Demonstrated experience in the installation and configuration of network and Wi-Fi equipment
  • Required Qualification: University Degree
  • Additional Qualification: FP1 in Computer Science

The evaluation criteria and their weighting for the submitted applications will be the following:

  • Previous experience in a similar environment: 50 points
  • Linux experience at the system administrator level: 20 points
  • Windows and MacOS experience at the installation and user support level: 20 points
  • Experience in installation, equipment management, and network cabling: UTP, Fiber, Wi-Fi: 10 points

Offered contract

  • Full-time Contract
  • Permanent Contract (Indefinit Activitats Cientifiques-Tècniques)
  • The position will correspond to a Tècnic/a de Recerca Nivell 2
  • Salary will be proportional to experience and qualifications within the corresponding category range.
