Bojos per la Física Program
Extracurricular science outreach programme for upper secondary education
Bojos per la Física is an extracurricular science outreach programme aimed at upper secondary school students, offering a direct introduction to current research in physics. With ten years of experience, the programme is co-coordinated by the Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE) and the Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2), and is funded by the Fundació Catalunya La Pedrera. Through sessions led by research staff, hands-on activities, real data analysis, and visits to scientific centres and infrastructures, the programme brings students closer to the methods, tools and ways of reasoning characteristic of contemporary physics.
What does the programme offer?
Throughout the academic year, students explore some of the major fields of contemporary physics:
- Particle physics and large-scale experiments
- Observational cosmology and astrophysics
- Quantum physics and new technologies
- Photonics, nanoscience and advanced materials
- Sensors, detectors and technological applications
The sessions combine conceptual explanations, hands-on activities, real data analysis, and visits to laboratories and scientific infrastructures.
For any enquiries, you can contact us by writing to comunicacio@ifae.es .

Sessions led by IFAE
As a co-coordinating centre, IFAE leads several sessions focused on exploring matter and the Universe at their most fundamental scales:
- Particle physics with the ATLAS detector at the LHC
- Observational cosmology using data from the Dark Energy Spectroscopic Instrument
- Astrophysics using data from the CTA telescopes in La Palma
- Particle physics phenomenology
- Quantum computing with superconducting circuits
- Black holes
Discovering how physics is done today
Bojos per la Física is not only an advanced course, but an immersive experience in contemporary science. The programme fosters critical thinking, inspires scientific vocations, and offers real research role models, showing that although there are many ways of doing physics, they all share the same goal: understanding the world through simple, testable principles.
The sessions have been designed to bring students closer to cutting-edge research and to the real methods used by researchers in fundamental physics.
