IFAE Research Group
Collider Physics Group
Since 1993, the IFAE Collider Physics group has made major contributions to the construction of the ATLAS detector and its trigger system, the reconstruction software, and carried out a strong physics analysis program at the LHCC, expanding from precise Standard Model background measurements to Higgs boson physics
Gamma-ray Group
The goal of the Gamma Ray Group is to understand the more energetic phenomena in the universe. The group played a leading role in the design and construction of the MAGIC telescopes and is co-leading the development and construction of the largest telescopes (LST) of CTA.
Observational Cosmology Group
The main goal of the IFAE Observational Cosmology Group is to shed light on the nature of the mysterious dark energy, responsible for the current accelerated expansion of the universe. The group participates in the leading dark-energy surveys such as DES, DESI, Euclid and is a partner of PAUS.
Neutrinos Group
For more than a decade, IFAE has been contributing to several key experiments in the field of neutrino physics, such as K2K and T2K. The neutrino physics group at IFAE studies the neutrino sector of the Standard Model, with the ultimate goal to understand the fundamental phenomena that have produced the observed asymmetry between matter and antimatter in the universe.
Gravitational Waves Group
In 2018, IFAE initiated a long-term involvement in Gravitational Wave Physics joining the Virgo Collaboration. The IFAE Virgo group is strongly involved in the Virgo commissioning, operations, physics analysis, and the preparation of the future upgrades.
Medical Physics Group
Since 1999, IFAE has used its expertise with sophisticated radiation detectors to develop advanced medical imaging devices.
Quantum Computing Technologies Group
The QCT group develops superconducting circuits for applications in quantum computation. By employing Josephson-junction technology, the group engineers superconducting qubits for the implementetion of quantum algorithms.
Theory Division
The IFAE Theory division research focuses on Standard Model, Flavor Physics, Beyond the Standard Model, and Astroparticle and Cosmology issues.
