Gamma-ray Group

On the 8th and 9th of September, the MAGIC Collaboration held its 1st data-analysis school open to the public .

As gamma-ray astronomy at the highest energies has traditionally been conducted with proprietary data and software, the school represents a milestone within the larger effort - led by the gamma-ray group at IFAE, of opening the archive of MAGIC observations to the public. A data set of 172 h, publicly released to participate in the school, is now accessible to the astronomical community for scientific exploitation. Cosimo Nigro, Giacomo D’Amico, and Sarah Wagner, organised and taught at the school.

The event was organised under the sponsorship of the Astrophysics Centre for Multi-messenger studies in Europe (ACME), a EU-funded project in which IFAE and PIC participate in building a “Gamma-ray centre of expertise”
