IFAE researchers and engineers complete the first Virgo baffle pre-assembly at EGO

IFAE members from the gravitational waves group and technical division completed the first pre-assembly of a baffle for the Virgo detector at EGO, ahead of its planned installation next week.

Members of the IFAE gravitational waves group and the technical division have travelled to EGO to participate in the pre-assembly of the first baffle for the Virgo detector. Lluïsa-Maria Mir, Alex Carmona, Noel Delgado, Pepe Illa and David Roman completed the first assembly in the EGO clean room after overcoming several technical and logistical challenges. The installation of the first baffle at Virgo is planned for next week.

Successful Validation of Data Transmission Systems for the Virgo Instrument

May 22, 2025

Engineers from the Institut de Física d’Altes Energies (IFAE) have successfully validated the data transmission systems of a new instrumented baffle developed for the Virgo gravitational-wave detector. This milestone confirms the compatibility of the system with the interferometer environment and represents a key result of IFAE’s research and development activities in gravitational-wave instrumentation, carried out by its Gravitational Waves group in close collaboration with the Technical Division.
