IFAE launches ‘Ask the Universe’ for the European Researchers’ Night

September 16, 2026

IFAE

IFAE launches Ask the Universe (Pregunta a l’Univers), a new educational outreach initiative inviting young people to share the questions about the Universe that most intrigue them. The activity is part of IFAE’s programme for the European Researchers’ Night 2026 and has been developed within the European project PICO New Horizons.

What would you ask the Universe if you had the chance?

This is the starting point of Ask the Universe , an initiative designed to place curiosity and young people’s own questions at the centre of science outreach. Participants are invited to submit questions about the Universe — from its origin and evolution to black holes, fundamental particles, gravitational waves or any of the mysteries that science is still trying to understand.

Selected questions will receive prizes and recognition, and the project will culminate in an online event bringing together the questions gathered throughout the initiative.

Part of the European Researchers’ Night

Ask the Universe has been developed in the framework of PICO New Horizons , a European project aimed at bringing physics closer to society and creating new opportunities for people to engage with fundamental science.

The initiative forms part of IFAE’s programme for the European Researchers’ Night 2026, the Europe-wide celebration of science held every September. Through PICO New Horizons, IFAE is contributing a programme of educational and public activities that explores different ways of bringing fundamental physics closer to a broad range of audiences.
