Around 400 people filled the CosmoCaixa Auditorium for “Com sona l’Univers: jazz i física per a tothom”, the closing event of the evening. The Néstor Giménez Trio joined ICREA researcher at IFAE Diego Blas in a performance combining live music and scientific conversation to explore some of the fundamental questions about the Universe.

Earlier in the evening, IFAE offered “Missió PICO: troba el teu lloc a l’Univers”, a hands-on cosmology workshop for families. Through three interactive activities, participants explored how we study the light from galaxies, measure the expansion of the Universe and build maps of the cosmos.

Quantum computing and sensing were also part of the night, with IFAE researcher Ariadna Gómez del Pulgar Martínez giving a talk on the use of superconducting qubits and quantum sensing in the search for dark matter.

IFAE’s European Researchers’ Night activities continue this week with a Lego workshop at Vil·la Urània on Wednesday 30 September and participation in the UAB Science Fair on Friday 2 October. The programme will continue on 16 October with an activity for the whole school community of Sant Martí in Cerdanyola del Vallès.

The activities are developed within PICO New Horizons , the European project in which IFAE participates to promote accessible, inclusive and participatory ways of connecting fundamental physics and research with society.
