Ongoing HGTD Testbeam Campaign Pioneers ALTIROC3 Module Prototypes in ATLAS Detector Upgrade

The High Granularity Timing Detector (HGTD) testbeam campaign is currently underway at the electron beam line in DESY, Hamburg, representing a significant step in the ATLAS detector’s HGTD upgrade.

Three new IFAE patents

IFAE filed a new medical imaging technology patent application: “Proton CT System with Improved Proton Energy Detector” and a patent application was granted named “Devices, Systems, and Methods for Mammography with a Detector Having Reduced Dimensions.” The third is a PET technology based new patent application filed in the European Patent Office.

HERD prototype tested at CERN SPS beam

The HERD prototype is being tested at CERN SPS beam between Oct 2 and 16. This test, together with the one at PS back in September, will be used to validate and optimize the different sub-detector concepts and complete Phase B of the project.

Time Projection Chambers (TPC) installation completed at J-PARC

The detector is already connected to the gas system and first cosmics in this configuration are expected to be recorded in about 4 weeks. First data taking with a neutrino beam is planned for the 2nd half of November and December.

Installation of new cryostat in the QCT Lab

The installation of a new cryostat from Leiden Cryogenics is ongoing at the QCT Lab by the Qilimanjaro team. The new equipment is part of the Quantum Spain project coordinated by BSC of giving remote access to a 5-qubit quantum chip.

The Universe in a Box : Euclid simulations outreach video

ESA published in August an outreach video showcasing the Euclid Flagship simulations, the largest and most comprehensive catalog of simulated galaxies ever produced. PIC members participated in the producton
